This page documents the setup of this MediaWiki installation

Basic Setup

Configuration & Extensions

Now we have a finished blank default mediawiki installation. Now lets continue with extra configuration and extensions that I wanted to try out:

  • add those lines to the LocaleSettings.php:
$wgGroupPermissions['*']['edit']              = false;
$wgGroupPermissions['user']['edit']           = false;
$wgGroupPermissions['bureaucrat']['edit']     = true;
  • add this to the bottom of pages where you want to enable comments: <comments />

Piwik with Mediawiki Setup

The easiest solution I could find for this was this:

I've adapted this to:

$wgOut->addScript('<!-- Piwik -->
<script type="text/javascript">
var pkBaseURL =  window.location.protocol + "//" + + "/piwik/";
document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src=\'" + pkBaseURL + "piwik.js\' type=\'text/javascript\'%3E%3C/script%3E"));
</script><script type="text/javascript">
try {
var piwikTracker = Piwik.getTracker(pkBaseURL + "piwik.php", 1);
} catch( err ) {}
<!-- End Piwik Tracking Code -->');

Prevent redirect to default address

Since my webserver is reachable through more than one address (and also different networks), I found the behavior to always redirect to the default address to be somewhat annoying. I found out how to prevent this: Just don't define the variable $wgServer in the LocalSettings.php

Todo -> MobileFrontend

  • Look at why the MobileFrontend doesn't work, what I want (and thought I'd get from this extension) is to get a mobile behaviour close to wikipedia
  • Clicking on the "Mobile view" Button on the bottom of (every?) page gives this exception:

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 300 seconds exceeded in /share/HDA_DATA/Web/mediawiki/extensions/MobileFrontend/library/WURFL/Xml/DeviceIterator.php on line 92

Official Documentation

The default main page contained some links to the official documentations. I've moved them here:
